The Shahrestan bridge is the oldest bridge in Isfahan. The massive stone piers are Sassanian, while the brickwork atop it is Seljuk. Roman engineers who were taken prisoner were probably responsible for the design of the bridge, Wilfrid Blunt writes that the bridge is “sprawling, picturesque, decayed.” -SK

The covered structures on each side of the bridge have been heavily restored since Baly's visit. Comparison of this view with J.60 reveals the changing landscape around the bridge between 1963 and 1967.
