A. Denis Baly is born in Liverpool, England on April 24.
Baly receives an undergraduate degree in geography from the University of Liverpool.
Baly moves to the Near East, teaching in Amman and Haifa in British Mandatory Palestine over the next nine years.
During unrest and conflict surrounding the establishment of Israel, schools in Palestine are closed and Baly serves with the World Council of Churches in Geneva, Switzerland.
Baly returns to Palestine as headmaster of St. George's College in East Jerusalem, where he stayed until 1953.
Baly goes to the United States as a lecturer at St. George's Episcopal Church in New York City.
Baly begins teaching at Kenyon College in the Political Science Department. That same year, he takes photos of the University of Virginia and Monticello, the first of what would become the Slide Collection. He also published his first two books, Challenge and Decision and Chosen Peoples.
Baly publishes the first version of his most famous work, The Geography of the Bible, as well as the lesser-known Multitudes in the Valley. Church and Crisis in the Middle East.
Baly joins the department of Religious Studies at Kenyon College, remaining involved with the Political Science Department.
Baly retires from teaching, but continues to live in Gambier, OH until his death in 1987
