A view of the Dome of the Rock before dramatic restorations undergone in the 1960s. The holy shrine the earliest surviving Islamic monument, dating from the late 7th century AD.
This interesting image was taken at a much earlier date than the rest, in the August of 1960, and thus shows one of the faces of the Dome of the Rock just before renovation. It is clearly in decay, in sharp contrast to the magnificent renovations that we see today.
