Abstract

A Corinthian column capital in front of al-Aqsa Mosque, in the southeast corner of the Temple Mount.

Description

Column capital in the courtyard of al-Aqsa Mosque, part of a collection of fragmented capitals and column drums sitting between al-Aqsa and the Islamic Museum of the Temple Mount. The collection includes finds from the Byzantine, Abbasid, Ummayad, and Ayubid eras, including many pieces believed to be from Herod's Royal Stoa, and dating from the 1st century BC.
