Pseudo-isodomic Wall at Delphi

Abstract

An unidentified wall at Delphi in the pseudo-isodomic ashlar masonry. This Classical Period style is characterized by cut rectangular blocks, organized in rows of alternating height.

Description

A wall at Delphi, featuring pseudo-isodomic ashlar construction. This refers to the use of finely cut rectangular stone blocks and differs from isodomic construction in that the rows of blocks differ in height, but each row is distinct and uniform individually. The pseudo-isodomic style is typical of architecture from the Classical Period, ranging from the 5th to 4th centuries BCE. The location of this wall in the site is unknown.
