The Alaettin mosque was built in 1223 and is one of the early Seljuk mosques still extant. The mosque is rectangular in plan and the prayer hall comprises of three aisles and five bays. The sturdy-looking minaret resembles a lighthouse, while the monumnetal facade—not visible in this image—is elaborately decorated with typical Seljuk motifs in stone. - SK
