Gonbad-e Ghaffariyeh

Description

Arched portal containing stalactite tympanum above door with brilliant turquoise decoration. Gonbad-i-Ghaffariyeh is a mausoleum built during the Ilkhanid period. Hulagu Khan made Maragheh in North Western Iran the capital of the Ilkhanid empire. This tomb tower is one of the finest surviving tomb towers at Maragha. The façade is decorated with glazed brick in black, white and blue.
