This octagonal domed mausoleum is a very important monument, being the earliest extant example of a building with a masonry double dome. The dome chamber is located three kilometers east of Kerman. Most of the building is built in stone (rubble masonry), while baked brick is used for the dome. The exterior of the tomb is decorated with a series of niches-within-niche system. Bernard O’ Kane writes of the building as “one of the most imposing early Islamic mausoleums of Iran.”
