The immense Temple of Zeus Olympius situated southeast of the Acropolis. It is one of the most important monuments of the Hellenistic period, and of its massive dimensions, Trachtenberg writes: " … with columns 57 feet tall, [the temple] was set out over a ground plan extending 135 feet by 354 feet, dwarfing the Parthenon and rivaling the Doric temples of Sicily and the grand Ionic shrines" (103). -MA
