Şifaiye Medrese

Description

A muqarnas or stalactite vault at the Şifaiye Medrese, also known as the Izzedin Keykavus Darrusifasi. The Sifaiye was a hospital and a medical school founded by the Seljuk sultan in 1217, and is the largest extant Seljuk hospital. The tomb inside is one of the few Seljuk Anatolian tombs extant. It is the form of a conical brick decagon with each face decorated with elaborate brick patterns using plain and glazed varieties. - SK
