Arabic calligraphy in carved stucco on a wall in the Alhambra. The wider band on the left contains the Nasrid motto in cursive naskhi script, and reads ‘la ghalib ila Allah,’ i.e. ‘no victor but God.’ The Alhambra’s walls are filled with text—most of these are Quranic inscriptions, but also include a lot of poetry by the court poets. For a general account of the Alhambra, see slide B49.185.
